Hunt and Fish
Del Rio and Val Verde County are a hunter’s paradise.
While Val Verde County features great white tail deer and dove hunting, many venture here to collect trophies from around the globe.
Some American game that is offered up, most notably by Indianhead Ranch are American Buffalo and Elk. Others are Sika Deer, Fallow Deer, Axis, Addax, Oryx, Mouflon, Aoudad and Blackbuck.
If you’re an executive with a busy schedule, you can fly into San Antonio, drive to Del Rio on Day One, harvest your trophy on Day Two and head home on Day Three, all while living in first world luxury. Del Rio also offers an international airport that you can fly directly into on private aircraft.
Lake Amistad is #1 for bass fishing.
World class bass fishing is the only way to describe the experience offered by Lake Amistad just outside of Del Rio. Lake Amistad has been mentioned as one of the top bass fishing destinations in the world by virtually every bass fishing publication and is a favorite stop for the top bass fishing professionals.
The lake features largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, Guadalupe bass, and catfish in its beautiful nearly 65,000 acres of water.
A number of world class anglers have migrated to the shores of Lake Amistad and built homes when they discovered the huge lunkers they can consistently pull from one of Texas’s premier bass fishing lakes. Two of the 50 biggest largemouth bass have been plucked out of Lake Amistad, a 15.6 pounder in 2005 and another monster nearly the same size a few years before.
Some of the professional anglers who live on the shores of Lake Amistad now are Denny Brauer, Kurt Dove and Ray Hanselman.
